Aluminum Josephson junctions are the building blocks for the realization of superconducting quantum bits. Attention has been also paid to hybrid ferromagnetic Josephson junctions, which allow switching between different magnetic states, making them interesting for applications such as cryogenic memories, single-photon detectors, and spintronics. In this paper, we report on the fabrication and characterization of high-quality ferromagnetic Josephson junctions based on aluminum technology. We employed an innovative fabrication process inspired by niobium-based technology, allowing us to obtain very high-quality hybrid aluminum Josephson junctions; thus, supporting the use of ferromagnetic Josephson junctions in advanced quantum circuits. The fabrication process is described in detail and the main DC transport properties at low temperatures (current–voltage characteristic, critical current as a function of the temperature, and the external magnetic field) are reported. In the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB), the latest regulation for minimum capital market risk requirements, one of the major changes, is replacing the Incremental Risk Charge (IRC) with the Default Risk Charge (DRC). The DRC measures only the default and does not consider the migration rating risk. The second new change in this approach was that the DRC now includes equity assets, contrary to the IRC. This paper studies DRC modeling under the Internal Model Approach (IMA) and the regulator conditions that every DRC component must respect. The FRTB presents the DRC measurement as Value at Risk (VaR) over a one-year horizon, with the quantile equal to 99.9%. We use multifactor adjustment to measure the DRC and compare it with the Monte Carlo Model to understand how the approach fits. We then define concentration in the DRC and propose two methods to quantify the concentration risk: the Ad Hoc and Add-On methods. This paper examines the application of the Wiener process as a degradation model. Its appropriateness as a degradation model is discussed and demonstrated with the aid of Monte Carlo simulations. In particular and for monotonically degrading systems, this paper demonstrates that the irreversible accumulation of damage can be modelled by the Wiener maximum process. First passage times of the Wiener and its maximum process are also revealed to coincide. Practical advantages of assessing system reliability from degradation data are highlighted by applying the Wiener process model to a real gallium arsenide (GaAs) laser data for telecommunication systems. The real data application results demonstrate that degradation analysis allows for conclusions about system reliability to be reached earlier without compromising estimation accuracy—a major practical advantage....
Modern vehicles have extensive instrumentation that can be used to actively assess the condition of infrastructure such as pavement markings, signs, and pavement smoothness. Currently, pavement condition evaluations are performed by state and federal officials typically using the industry standard of the International Roughness Index (IRI) or visual inspections. This paper looks at the use of on-board sensors integrated in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) connected vehicles to obtain crowdsource estimates of ride quality using the International Rough Index (IRI). This paper presents a case study where over 112 km (70 mi) of Interstate-65 in Indiana were assessed, utilizing both an inertial profiler and connected production vehicle data. By comparing the inertial profiler to crowdsourced connected vehicle data, there was a linear correlation with an R2 of 0.79 and a p-value of <0.001. Although there are no published standards for using connected vehicle roughness data to evaluate pavement quality, these results suggest that connected vehicle roughness data is a viable tool for network level monitoring of pavement quality....
This paper develops the problem of estimating stress-strength reliability for Gompertz lifetime distribution. First, the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and exact and asymptotic confidence intervals for stress-strength reliability are obtained. Then, Bayes estimators under informative and noninformative prior distributions are obtained by using Lindley approximation, Monte Carlo integration, and MCMC. Bayesian credible intervals are constructed under these prior distributions. Also, simulation studies are used to illustrate these inference methods.
